Workshop “Afterlife and Communication” given by Paul Lambillion at the QFAS conference at Claridge House, November 3rd, 2007.

The sessions on Saturday consisted of a workshop run by Paul Lambillion, a very experienced and internationally respected spiritual teacher and healer from Bury St Edmonds. Paul has trained healers for many years and is the author of several books. In the first part of his workshop, Paul shared some of his experiences and views of the so-called supernatural. Paul is a natural medium and has had experiences from an early age.

As a young man he had an “out-of-the-body” experience when he was struck by lightning while camping. He shot out of his body and met his great-grandmother who told him he had to go back. He felt very happy and free but did as she told him, was taken to hospital and recovered. 

He works through private consultation and group work. He avoids doing platform work and dislikes the “theatricalization” of mediumship. He is concerned at the way communication and psychic phenomena are treated in the media. He has had to deal with adverse affects on people who have “dabbled” with the psychic after watching television programmes.

For Paul the most important part of his work as a medium is to create the possibility for healing. His healing work includes working with auras. He believes that the healing process is a learning time for the healer too. Truly lasting healing can only work through the soul. Some spiritual healing therapies work on the etheric level but this is not the highest level of healing.
 
He told us that one should approach healing and mediumistic work with good intention. If you link with the Light you will have no need to do anything to protect yourself against evil forces since the Light will protect you anyway. 

Paul suggested that we are much more than we appear to our physical consciousness. Each of us is a confluence of all the forces of the universe. Life is one eternal continuum. For this reason, he feels that the use of the word “afterlife” to explain where we go after physical death is misleading. Our time on earth and in the next dimension are stages in our continuing existence.

Similarly, he does not like speaking of “the world of spirit”. We are all spirits on different parts of our life journey and those who have gone into the next stage of life are people just like us.
 
Paul also believes we existed before our current time on earth. We all have a path for our time on earth which we accept before we are born. We can reconnect with our plans, e.g. through meditation, so we can see the purpose of our earthly journey. We have experiences in life which are linked to our plan. We can grow through experience and healing and can come through by transmuting the effect our experiences have on us to a higher level. However much suffering one goes through the spirit will always triumph in the end.

Physical death should be treated as a natural part of our continuing life journey. Unlike other societies, our culture does not like facing death and tries to sweep it under the carpet. In other cultures, such as the native American, people prepare better for death and celebrate it as a passing on to the next part of the journey.

Death looks much worse to those of us still on earth than it really is. For example, people who pass on in disasters usually go over very quickly. The souls of those who jumped off the towers on 9/11 left their bodies very soon after they jumped. People are helped in their transition by those waiting on the other side.

Reports of how it is in the next dimension may conflict because they will differ according to the experience of the people communicating. As Jesus said, “In my father’s house are many mansions.”

In the second session of the workshop, Paul explained the different types of mediumship. Most mediumistic communication is made through the astral plane. There are different types of mediumship e.g. clairvoyance (seeing), clairaudience (hearing), clairsentience (feeling or sensing). We all have the potential to be mediums but most of us suppress it. Animals and children show psychic awareness more naturally. In the future more people will develop awareness. Everyone can be their own medium but it is easier to do these things for someone else than for oneself. One’s mind is less likely to interfere with the communication.

Communicators from the next world should be creative, loving and supportive. The purpose of good communication is to help us find our own answers. Those who tell us what to do in a given situation are not from a very high source. Good communicators remind us of what we know within ourselves and let us find our own solutions. 

Physical mediumship was more common in the past but has now gone out of fashion. We live in a more mentally orientated culture and have less time for this type of mediumship. In Victorian times, for example, people often had a go at table turning and the like as a way to pass an evening. One type of physical mediumship uses ectoplasm. This comes from the etheric body of the medium and is used by entities like “play dough” to form a “body”. This type of mediumship is potentially dangerous. It can lead to shock for the medium if the process is interrupted, as happened to Helen Duncan when one of her sessions was interrupted by the police. 
 
Another type of physical mediumship is the “direct voice” phenomenon, where the physical voice of communicators can be heard in the room. One famous and remarkable exponent of this method was Leslie Flint.

There are different degrees of trance. In deep trance the medium becomes unconscious (like going to sleep) and knows nothing of what is communicated. In what is called “overshadowing” the medium goes into a dreamlike state but remains aware of what is being said through them.

In the afternoon session, Paul gave us a demonstration of mediumship when he channelled a communication in deep trance. Before he went into trance, he explained that his communicator was known as “Heartstar”. There are, in fact, a number of people in the next world who join together to give regular communications through him under this name.

The following is a shortened version of the communication:

“For us it is a joy to come and spend time with you and to involve ourselves in some discussion that may be of value to you in your life here in this reality and in the unfolding of your inner consciousness so that you may pursue a life that as much as possible is an invocation of the glory and the truth of the inner frequencies and the manifestation of the Eternal One that is always present in your heart and seeking to be of influence through your mind.

“We understand that, seekers as you are, you seek from various positions and viewpoints to explore the continuity of life and the manner in which when you have progressed through this physical life you then move your consciousness from this reality to the higher realities, to those levels of light that are more subtle but equally, if not more real than the reality in which you find yourselves here. This process we realise seems to many in the physical life to be rather a fanciful and even illusory notion – to exist beyond what seems to be a totally material existence - but you must understand that your material nature, your physical expression, is nothing more nor less than a costume that you adopt for this particular frame of time during which you encounter the earth and the trials, difficulties, joys and inspirations of the 3-dimensional life. The growth and unfoldment that is available to you in this place and time is of itself vast and perhaps, in some ways, relatively unrivalled in a universal sense because each one of you here is a child of the cosmos, an entity of universal perpetuity.

 “Each one of you here is a traveller through the whole of cosmic reality and in your search you begin to understand more of the invincibility of the spirit, the vast and wonderful creative potentials of divinity that reside in fullness within each human soul and are to be explored and understood in every corner of reality. For, as many of you may believe and understand, there is no point in space and time where God is not, and there is no point in space and time where you are equally not present. Your consciousness and the divine consciousness in essence are one and the same, and so where God is so are you and where you are so is God. In every atom of consciousness there is present the essence of your own nature and the total identity of divinity, and that is why in terms of your travelling through space and time, through the multiplicity of realities and planes, you never really need an external vehicle as such. You simply need the projections of your souls and the manifestations that come through your souls to assist you in your functioning in whatever place and whatever space you wish to be. When, in your deepest self, in your soul-self, it is decided that this particular part of your ongoing journey has reached a satisfactory conclusion, you then depart from this place and move your focus into other planes of being, seeking to do whatever it is that you need to do next that is of benefit to first of all your own evolution as a being and then, through that evolution, to do those things that are of service to the collective reality, and all the beings that are the constituent parts of that reality.

 “The true essence of being is service, service through the self into the greater plans of being, and therefore in enriching, understanding, respecting, honouring, loving and learning to know the self, you prepare a platform through which and from which you can step into endeavours of varied and wonderful and perhaps tantalising opportunity that will take you far and wide in your experience. This earth life is but one component of a vast and wonderful experience in which ultimately each one of you will rediscover your eternal nature. Each one of you will rediscover and unlock that doorway to infinity in which everything becomes possible for you. When you finally decide to take off this physical nature from yourself and to withdraw into the higher frequencies and into your lighter bodies, you place yourself in a higher reality where you can choose to begin the next part of a great and wonderful quest. It may be that for some of you a decision is made whereby it is no longer seen to be the highest good for yourself to return to this particular dimension and the sequence of time that progresses here. For some of you, however, it may be that you consider that returning here is of great value and therefore the soul will lead you to engage again with the physical life through a different form, and perhaps even a different and more challenging personality nature. You will come and seek and find and grow. As you grow, as you unfold, as you become more of the glory of God that is in you, so you make it possible for others also to become more of the glory of God that is within them.”

At this point the communicator asked if any one had any questions but added a small caveat. (He always speaks of his channel with gentle irony.)

“Bear in mind that when we think and speak using the channel here we are constrained to a certain extent by the degree of his intellect. Now we are not saying that he has a narrow intellect. That is open to debate. What we are saying is that we use his vocabulary and some of the thought-streams that are contained within his mind and we have to work with those.”

Jan Arriens commented that when on earth we are very aware of ourselves as individuals and asked if this changes after physical death.

“Part of the mystery of being is that each human individual is the totality of divinity, rather like a potential that is slowly and surely being unwrapped, layer by layer. Eventually the journey will lead to a sense of consciousness in which both individuality and collective consciousness express side by side. One of the mysteries that the intellect often finds difficult is how it is that on the one hand we can be reconciled back into our divinity and yet at the same time retain a sense of individuality.

“This dilemma cannot be resolved as an intellectual one. All we can say is that in the higher levels of consciousness beyond this physical world there is a greater sense of being a part of the whole and yet at the same time being an individualised aspect of that whole. This is difficult for us to understand always if we are in the physical frame because we feel somewhat cut off from that essential support and love which is our divinity, but it is possible to experience the sense of individuality and yet the sense of connection to all that is.

“You exist on the earth at a junction between 2 ages of unfoldment and evolution. You are moving at this time from a stage of very important mental evolution where the predominance was the unfoldment and refining of the logical mind and the capacity for reason. You are also entering a new time and this is why there is often talk of a New Age. It will be a time in which the relationship between the personality and its soul and spirit will become again more clearly united and healed. This is why you see at this time an opening in the hearts and minds of many of a vision that you would call “holistic”. It is a vision of the heart and of how you cannot just have parts that are separate and unconnected and that everything is connected in a mystical and wonderful whole, even though within that whole there are an infinite number of individual expressions.

 “In this age the soul and the intuitive self will become much more dominant. There will be an unfoldment of soul consciousness and, as this takes place over many hundreds of years, so this dilemma that we see between individuality and the soul consciousness will be answered. There are no intellectual words that we can give to explain this but to say that after death there is a greater sense of it.  Perhaps you have had yourself those moments when your own individuality has briefly merged with everything around you, perhaps on a beautiful day when you are outside looking at the trees, flowers and so on, and in that moment you lose yourself and feel somehow unified with everything that is around you. It is in those moments that we attain to a glimpse of this marvellous interaction and relation between individuality and wholeness that makes us understand we are us and yet we are everything at the same time. Of course in the higher planes it is perhaps easier to realise this, but part of your task here is, if you like, to reconcile the spiritual and material selves, understanding that the sense of separation in the physical is not a reality but it is rather illusory and can be overcome through the increasing sense of cohesion and connection between all things and between all people. This is not an answer [to the question]. One of the things you learn as you come into the higher levels is that it is not a question of answers but of allowing our thoughts to lead us into ourselves so that we can have that true intuitive knowingness that transcends logical analysis. 

“We will speak a little more about ourselves and the manner in which guidance is given to you. It may interest you to know that we are 5 souls here who come together to be present with you and shed some light and some love and some ideas and thoughts.  Each one of you here also has with you 2, 3 or more entities linked to your own guidance. Whether or not you know of it, or value it or believe it to be so, each of you is loved and supported and, where appropriate, guided from the invisible levels. You are guided by those who come through a sense both of obligation but also a sense of love and desire to support your own journey and to be available to you from the beginning of the incarnation through to the end of the journey when you finally decide to relinquish the physical life. Each of you is accompanied at this moment by these beings and we would encourage you at least to reflect upon that idea. It is a question of individual choice as to whether you wish to refine the relationship so that it becomes a more conscious and dynamic interaction between you and these other entities but, at least, honour the idea in thought and in your prayers and reflect upon this guidance. All of these souls that are with you will be known to you, not necessarily from this life but from earlier times when you have walked the earth with them either as a friend or in some other capacity, where they may have taught you or encouraged you in another time and place.

  “And so it is good for you to honour and consider such things and reflect upon that guidance because whether you believe in that guidance or not it is there and available to you.  Remember also that those entities come to help you open your hearts and minds increasingly with each passing moment so that you can reach into your own divinity and allow that divinity to celebrate itself more and more dynamically and wonderfully in this outer reality. That is what they are here for.  That is why we come – not to control or to dictate, not to take responsibility for anyone or anything else, but rather to encourage and to stimulate and perhaps to discuss, so that those of you here, and others, can increasingly find a good channel through to your own heart, your own mind and to your own inner wisdom. That is why there are many beings with you here in this room who come to be with you now and are always available to you – your invisible friends who love and care for humanity and wish to see that the transitions of life that are so rapid in this particular time are encountered and understood as clearly and as creatively as possible. That is the whole point of having guidance – to take you forward in your own life and in your own glory.

“And now we will take our leave of you. You have at least had an opportunity to see how this process works. We will now withdraw from the channel’s consciousness and allow him to become more fully conscious himself. It is a co-operation. We do not take him over. It is a sharing of a process together. As we withdraw from you, we say to you with much love and joy, that we give to you from our hearts every wish that as you progress in the days and weeks and months and years to come that you do so with an increasing sense of joy and purpose and of the glory of God that is within your hearts. Goodbye.”
